Punta Gorda: The best place to live in Florida.

Sunshine, clean air, 129 square miles of sparkling waters, fishing at its finest, wildlife in abundance and a friendly atmosphere draw those who seek the natural pleasures of life. Low crime and inexpensive living keep them here in the heart of the southwest coast of Florida.

ABOUT PUNTA GORDA

The beautiful city of Punta Gorda is located in Southwest Florida, between Fort Myers and Sarasota. It is a small historic fishing village located on Charlotte Harbor that offers wonderful recreational activities and exceptional values in waterfront, golf-course and non-waterfront properties.

Punta Gorda is the only incorporated area in Charlotte County, Florida. Punta Gorda has a unique, historical downtown district with several sites on the National Register. The city also has a picturesque waterfront area with a harbor and many publicly accessible, waterfront parks.

Punta Gorda is in the midst of major community revitalization and beautification efforts. With historic preservation as a priority, the city has secured State Historic District status. The City Streetscape Program is restoring an Old Florida atmosphere to central downtown streets by adding brick lanes, street lamps, benches, brick planters, flowers and shade trees. The residential areas feature many brick streets lined with huge, royal palms and many old, Florida-era, tin-roofed homes with verandas. Unique shops and restaurants are also being added throughout the city, expanding the fine reputation of Punta Gorda Charm.

Punta Gorda is a unique city in Florida. It has been a city since 1887. That may not seem old to northerners, but our founding fathers were real pioneers. Key West type homes make up our historic downtown area. In the late 1800's, Punta Gorda was the end of the railroad line and things were barged from here to Key West.

Our historic area and downtown properties are in the process of major revitalization. It's architecture contrasts with the more modern "Florida homes" found in Punta Gorda Isles. Both blend nicely to give us a rare small town atmosphere.
